Once again, the ratio of PS2 vs Xbox sales is almost 2:1. |
| | | Interseting to see how though PS2 has dominance with ~50% of the games in the list, the GC, Xbox, and GBA all have a reasonably equal share of the rest.
it's good to see the GBA doing so well against the big competition. |

| Of course. PS2 n00bs can't handle a game as hardcore as Ghost Recon 2.
They'd get shot up and go crying to momma. |

| Ghost Recon 2 on PS2 is a different game than Ghost Recon 2 on XBOX. If look up some reviews, you'll see that GR2 XBOX is actually a good game, especially for online. Wheareas on the other hand, most reviews for GR2 PS2 are below average.
Gamerankings: GR2 XBOX - 83.7% GR2 PS2 - 59.0% |
| | | | Yeah.. the PS2 version uses the old game engine if I remember correctly. It takes places before the events of Ghost Recon 2 on XBOX. So most of your missions are stealth whereas the XBOX version is a lot combat on teh field. |

Halo is impressive. It's a 2001 release, yet it makes the Top Ten for 2004.

Just goes to show what a good money making franchise Halo is. |

| | Most of the Cube fanboys on the various forums around the net have a very strong anti-cross-platform bias. For instance, some of them changed their minds about getting RE4 for the simple reason that it's getting a PS2 port in a year, with the reasoning "Well, I guess that means the GameCube version will be half-assed, while they'll go all-out on the PS2 version." So if a game isn't exclusive, they won't buy it. I wonder if that's why Viewtiful Joe 2 did so poorly, since it seems like only pretty hardcore fans bought the first one (I haven't bought the second because of the price tag). The kiddie titles do pretty well, though...*sigh.* |

| I'd like to say for the record that you guys are awesome. I've been looking for numbers like these for months. Thank you so much.
However, I was wondering about a couple of things. First, are these US-only statistics? Secondly, I had a statistic that the top 50 console games of 2004 sold over 500,000 units, but I'm trying to figure out how fast the drop-off is after that. Does anyone have any insight about this? Or, even better, could that chart at the bottom of this thread of top sellers in 2004 be expanded to a full 100?
Also, do you have any numerical sales data similar to this for PC titles, or only for console games? I saw the all-time best seller lists in another thread, but I'm much more interested in 2004 (or 2005) sales data. Thanks again for the information. |
