| PlayStation Paradise / PS3 Developer Says Xbox 360 is Better | | | Author | Message | | | January 9, 2006 - 5:56:23pm | 1 of 18 | | | Login |
| A developer (artist) working on a PS3 game says that Xbox 360 is better than PS3. I’ve spent some time the past year developing for the PS3. Actually it was a cinematic demo to be shown at e3 in 2005 at a closed door viewing. I was one of the few artists selected to work on it for the demo. My job was primarily asset creation. I was creating assets to populate the path where our camera would be flying during the demo. The company I work for is also working on a launch title that I am quite familiar with. In short, I’ve spent some time around the PS3 and or the teams developing for it.
...
Now I’ve spoken with people who are on the technical side of the PS3. I’ve also talked with people on the technical side of the XBOX 360. The consistent comment I am hearing from people on my end is, “The XBOX 360 is better”. They are saying that it is capable of just doing more. (shrugs)

The article is written by Josh Robinson, so I looked up the name. That matches the name of an artist working at Sony Online Entertainment. Josh Robinson Position: 3D Artist Josh graduated from the Illinois Institute of Art with a degree in Computer Animation. He's honed his art skills by working on such games as NBA Street and March Madness 2002 for EA Sports. In his free time, Josh enjoys swimming and mountain biking, and the occasional bouts as a professional NHB Fighter.

| | | It looks like we can expect PS3 launch games to be inferior to X360 launch games. We’ve all seen Gears of War for the xbox 360. If that even looks half as good when it comes out then I’ll be floored! The game we are making isn’t even in the same league as Gears of War. ---- Everything I’ve developed or seen developed has yet to be “next gen”.

| | But then with the history of Sonys exaggeration wasent it what we expected? I didnt but then I should have known better than to swallow a bit of Sonys hype. |

| | PS3's graphic chip has the same bandwidth to work with as a "vanilla" Gefore 6800, right? The CPU is a mess too. Those are the reason's I think the PS3 will be no better than the X360, if even as good. Some X360 games are so so as well, but some of the better developers are really going to make that thing sing! (heh, even the EA Fight Night demo rocks, the fighters look unbelievable! If you are reading this PJB, download it, it's awesome!) |

| | Josh WOW man where have you been. This is Kevin from Envision(old shcool). it's great to hear from ya. I believe your are correct though on the issue of PS3 compared to the Xbox 360. The PS3 has little more kick to the system but developing for it is another story. If you have a xbox360 my gamertag is krob7 shoot me a voice mail. see ya. |

| | I have no doubting that XBOX360 is better graphic and PS3 will better than PS2 but PS3 will same crap as PS2. |

Are you kidding, I must have already played that same fight, oh..... I don't know.... 100 times? Yes its totally amazing, both the graphics and the game. I hate sports titles but im seriously thinking of getting this one.
Rgd the guys comments, in the thread associated with the blog he also mentions that he thinks X360 launch games are below graphical par aswell and so he's not saying that PS3 launch games will be worse than X360 launch games, just that they are both pretty crappy compared to what we should expect from the systems. |

| I wonder if the dumb ass still has a job? what with all the NDA's, sorry but I dont believe this article, its also funny why the article was pulled from the original source ages ago and still hasn't returned.
Simply asking both sides questions on each system and not understanding what they are talking about, because according to him he isnt technical enough to understand, cannot bring you to a conclusion which is more powerfull. It depends what he asked and what he was told, by both sides, he didn't talk to Major Nelson by any chance did he? |
| | | He doesn't - You made some pretty big waves, at least in the gaming press, with your article about PS3 development. Tell us how your life has changed since that article, and what you’re working on now:
Yea I can’t believe how out of control everything got. It’s absolutely absurd how the internet can take something relatively harmless and turn it into something so insane.
Let me first just say, all I really did was write a few paragraphs that gave my opinion on publicly released information. I never actually released any information. After reading my small article the reader is not any more informed about the PS3 than he was before the article. I didn’t reveal any tech info and I didn’t reveal different shipping plans. I’m still in awe at the whole uproar over what amounts to NO information.
My life has changed a lot since the article. I was let go at Sony after the article was plopped on the desk of Sony corporate. I was also asked to remove the article immediately...

| | I have no simpathy for the guy, he has no clue about the technical side of game production, he asked both sides of the fence for info on the 2 systems and didn't have a clue what they were talking about, he then came to his own conclusion that X360 was better and wrote an article about it while under strict NDA, then lost his job, serves him right. All I can say is, he will find it very hard if not impossible to get back into video games now. |
