| | For multiplayer DOOM on PSX one needed a link cable to connect two boxes. Question I have is can two PS2's be linked to play the original PSX DOOM and if so, what link cable would be needed? |
|
| | Sorry, I don't think you can do it. You'd need the original link cable for the PSX - and I don't think PS2 has a port for it.
Not sure you could do it with a PSOne either, as I think Sony removed the link cable port from PSX years ago due to the low number of games that supported it.
Sorry. :(

I know the PS2 doesn't have a port for the old PSX link cable... I was wondering:
[1] if there IS a way to link PS2s, and if so, what cable is used... and
[2]if so these linked PS2s fully emulate two linked PSXs for games like DOOM. Of course, if ID just came out with a multiplayer version of DOOM for the PS2, I wouldn't have to bother. |

| | Yeah, you can link PS2s with the Firewire port. However, I doubt that PSX Doom would recognize the connection - meaning it probably won't work.
Just like PS2 games don't recognize PSOne multitaps and memory cards... Each format seems unable to "see" peripherals supporting the other.

| | OK... there is an i Link cable for the PS2... I assume it's firewire.
Actually, there were a fair number of PSX games that supported PSX networking so I hope they would be FULLY supported in the PS2. This is from a PSX FAQ at http://www.x-sages.com/sony/reviews/4603_XS00007.html
16. What games support the combat cable? Here's the part you were looking for. This is by no means a complete list. Some of these are not confirmed either. If you know of other games that support the combat cable, or disagree with the list please contact the author, me. nathan@gladstone.uoregon.edu. Games that have been confirmed by me personally have a little [C] after them. Games with a [S] have been confirmed by Scipio and games with a [W] have been confirmed by Winnie Forster. Please note some of these games are not avalible in all areas. I'm working on NSTC/US, NSTC/JAP and PAL editions of this list.

| | | After getting different answers from local videogame stores, I called Sony. It can't be done. Linking PS2s only works with enabled PS2 games... not PSX games. So much for total compatibility. |
|
| | Flash from the past. Never knew there were that many networked games.
Are any of the Current gen console games supporting LAN competition?
PlayStation 3 ? Xbox 360 ? Wii ? |
|
| | | Warhawk for the PS3 supports LAN play but I think you still need to be signed in on the Playstation network. |
|
| | | XBOX and X360 have always supported lan play i believe, it just depends on whether the game makers deemed it a valuable feature for their game (All the halo games have lan modes). So far wii doesn't have much in that respect, but the ability is definitely there and i expect brawl to have this capability. PS3 is probably much the same as x360, just depending on whether the game makers thought it would be a useful feature. |
|
| | | Indeed Wii supports LAN, but it isnt being used right now that i know of. Gamecube supported LAN in a select few titles if you had the broadband adapter. PS2 supports system link and LAN, but i dont think anyone made use of LAN on ps2. 360/PS3 absolutely support LAN play, but 90% of the time 360 devs will choose online only. |
